What a cut and polish actually does
Your car’s colour sits under a thin clear coat. Swirls and light scratches are tiny imperfections in that clear coat that scatter light and make the paint look flat. Machine polishing gently levels that layer so light reflects cleanly again, which is what brings back the gloss and depth.
It’s a skilled job, not a quick buff. I come to you across the Hibiscus Coast and match the level of correction to your paint, so you get a real improvement without taking off more clear coat than you need to.
What’s included
Every cut and polish I do runs through the same three stages:
A decontamination wash. A thorough wash and decontamination, plus a clay treatment, so no grit or bonded contamination gets dragged across the paint once I start cutting.
A three-stage machine cut and polish. Cutting back the damage, then refining, then finishing, each stage matched to the condition of your paint.
A ceramic spray sealant. Applied over the corrected paint, offering up to six months of protection so the finish you’ve just paid for actually holds.
This significantly improves oxidation, swirl marks and light-to-moderate scratches. Deeper damage that has penetrated the clear coat may remain, and I’ll tell you honestly what’s realistic for your car before I start rather than after.
What I can fix, and what I can’t:
Swirl marks and wash marring. The fine spider-web scratches you see in sunlight. These come out well.
Light to medium scratches. If you can’t catch your fingernail in it, there’s a good chance I can polish it out or greatly reduce it.
Oxidation and dullness. Faded, chalky, tired paint brought back to life in most cases. Some paint fade has gone too far for a cut and polish alone, so heavily faded paint needs a quote or a look over first.
Water spots and light etching. Usually corrected in the polishing stage.
Deep scratches and stone chips. If you can feel it with a fingernail, it’s through the clear coat and polishing won’t fully remove it.

How much does a cut and polish cost?
I quote it on the car, because the amount of correction needed depends on the condition of your paint. Send me a photo in daylight or give me a call and I’ll give you a price. A cut and polish paint enhancement is also included in the Best Man groom at $600 if you want the full works.
What’s the difference between a cut and polish and a normal wash and wax?
A wash and wax cleans the surface and adds a short-lived shine on top. A cut and polish actually corrects the paint underneath by removing swirls and marks from the clear coat, so the improvement is in the paint itself and looks far deeper.
Will it remove every scratch?
Not always. Light to moderate scratches and swirls come out well. Deeper damage that has penetrated the clear coat can be reduced but not fully polished out. I’ll tell you honestly what to expect for your car before I start.
How long does it take?
Paint correction is time-intensive, so plan for the car to be with me for the day. I’ll confirm timing when I quote.
Should I get it coated afterwards?
Every cut and polish I do finishes with a ceramic spray sealant, which gives you up to six months of protection. If you want it to last years rather than months, a full ceramic coating straight after correction is the way to do it, because the paint is at its best right then.

What it costs
I price a cut and polish on the car, because how much correction your paint needs depends entirely on its condition. A two-year-old car with light swirls and a fifteen-year-old ute with heavy oxidation are completely different jobs, and quoting a single number for both would mean overcharging one of you.
